Kapit: A Journey To Natural World

Me and my colleques visit to Kapit in 2006, the only major town or Division that is not yet connected by roads in Sarwak. The journey take 4++ hours by express boat form Sibu, the nearest town. Its cost us only RM 20.00(in 2006) per trip...

At Sibu congested express wharf
Inside the boat express. Along the journey we were served with very nice natural view even thoughmost of them being "raped" by logging activities.

A long and tired journey. However, we still can smile knowing that Kapit will give us sweet memories and experience. Kapit is a busy town in the morning, but become sleepy town in the afternoon...

FORD SYLVIA, KAPIT, SARAWAK (1880)

A British Colonial historical building of Fort Sylvia. Please note on the highest flood level on the wall (its mark high water mark: 62 ft above MSL approximately on 28th January, 1934)....And I cannot imagine what happened to lower town like Sibu in 1934. The building now is converted to muzium.....

RH BUNDONG, JALAN BUKIT GORAM, KAPIT, SARAWAK

The view of Rh. Bundong, an Iban traditional wooden long house believe to be more than 100 years old.

Fresh, clear and cold water on a stream near to Rh Bundong. This stream served the water supply to the longhouse before they connected to treated water.

A more than 50 m long (I assumed) belian wooden lift bridge, take us a two or three minutes to cross from car park to the long house

Amazing to see that this long house is built maybe 20 ft (I assumed) from ground level in wooden structure. And its still there even after more than 100 years....... Fuhhhh

A warm welcoming of traditional Iban by the long house full dress in Iban traditional costume...

In a procession around the longhouse by a group of traditional Iban musician and of course with "ngajat", a well known traditional Iban dance

Miring Ceremony, an Iban traditional ritual to welcome visitors.....

An Iban warrior performing his "ngajat" dance.........

The real skull during Head Hunter time, still well maintaince by the long house....

A beautiful young Iban lady performing "ngajat", a traditional Iban dance on welcoming visitors.

Kapit is wonderful visit for natural lover visitors. Until the developments and plantations change Kapit to his new world, visitors will not find any end on his journey....

END OF PART 1: TO BE CONTINUE......
